Basilica Cistern (Yerebatan)

6th-century underground water cistern from the Byzantine era. 336 columns, inverted Medusa heads and atmospheric lighting create a cinematic setting. Filmed for James Bond and Inferno.

Grand Bazaar (Kapaliçarşi)

Built in the 15th century, one of the oldest and largest covered bazaars in the world. 4,000 shops, 60 streets. The home of haggling culture for carpets, gold, antiques and spices.

Spice Bazaar (Egyptian Bazaar)

Built in the 17th century as a revenue source for the New Mosque. Selling spices brought from Egypt, the best place to buy Turkish delight, dried fruit, tea and spices.

Hippodrome (Sultanahmet Square)

Byzantine chariot-racing stadium. Today, the Obelisk (1500 BC, brought from Egypt), the Serpent Column and the Walled Obelisk stand as silent witnesses of history.

Cemberlitas Bath

A traditional Turkish bath built in 1584 by Mimar Sinan. Still active — don't leave Sultanahmet without unwinding here.
